Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere, all around us all the time. Our imagination leads us to believe that it only applies to robotics, humanoid, or the line work in an assembly plant for cars … The reality is slightly different.

It is not easy to define AI. In this context, we find a multitude of definitions of what AI is. As one takes a scientific point of view, philosophical or sociological

For our part, we will focused on the scientific side and specifically mathematical AI to set. The definition that we hold is from Lee Marvin Minsky, one of the creators of AI, which defines AI as “building computer programs that engage in tasks for now fulfilled so more satisfying by humans because they require high-level mental processes such as perceptual learning, memory organization and criticized the reasoning. ”

The concept of IA:

When we speak of artificial we aim the result of a process created by man. As opposed to biology, evolution.

But when we talk about intelligence, the problem is more complex. Indeed, when we speak of the ability to acquire, retain knowledge, understanding through experience. But also the reasoning faculty to solve problems.

There are two types of AI: The strong AI and The Weak IA:

The strong AI refers to a machine that can not only produce intelligent behavior, but to experience a sense of real self-awareness. It seeks to reproduce exactly how the human cognitive system. We then speak of artificial cognition. The machine thinks!

Weak AI seeks to build increasingly autonomous systems, algorithms that solve the problems of a certain class. But this time, the machine simulates intelligence, it seems to act as if she was intelligent.

The first may seem utopian as the second posing an ethical and philosophical questioning order requiring, like any technological advance, crazy guards. But the second (low IA) seems more accessible and ultimately already present in our lives.

Whether in search engines, our Smartphone in our applications, our televisions and video games, in marketing, in cars without drivers, in medicine, security …

The AI is everywhere.

In our next articles we will develop different aspects of AI and the main existing applications and become …
